TOTALLY CULTURE:UNIT 2. ROMAN BRITAIN

The Romans invaded Britain in 43 AD and left in 410. During that time, the Romans founded towns, built forts, amphitheatres and bathhouses and constructed roads.

Some of these can still be seen in Britain today.

Britain's most famous Roman site is Hadrian's Wall, a 118 kilometre Roman wall running across the north of Britain.

South of the wall, near the village of Bardon Mill, are the remains of a Roman Fort called Vindolanda.

Here, in the 1970s and 80s, hundreds of wooden writing tablets were discovered. these are the oldest handwritten documents in Britain.

23 kilometres to the east of Bardon Mill is the Roman Town of  Corbridge (or Coria as it was known in Roman times),which has the remains of a Roman fort.

Other famous Roman cities in Britain are:
Bath and St Albans in the south,

Roman baths in Bath
Roman Theatre

and York and Chester in the North

 column in York
Amphitheatre in Chester

REGULAR VERBS IN PAST SIMPLE. SOUNDS -ED ENDING

There are three ways to pronounce the -ed ending of regular verbs in the simple past.

The pronunciation depends on the sound at the end of the infinitive of the main verb:

When we pronounce voiced sounds---- /d/ ( our vocal chords  vibrate)

if it is a voiceless consonant-----/t/ (our vocal chords do not vibrate)

if it finishes in t or d-------/id/
